15th June 2010, European Connected Health, Belfast, Northern Ireland - Bluegiga Technologies Inc, the leading OEM module supplier for Bluetooth wireless technology, demonstrated the Bluetooth low energy technology at The European Connected Health conference in Belfast today. Bluegiga is the first company in the world to demonstrate a functioning Bluetooth low energy OEM module successfully sending data over the air at a distance of 20 meters.
"Bluetooth low energy technology offers device manufactures a true low energy wireless solution that is able to operate on coin cell batteries for years. This new technology will compliment classical Bluetooth technology and is well suited for low data rate, small latency applications such as health and fitness or industrial automation and wireless sensor applications," comments Mikko Savolainen, Bluegiga's Vice President of Product Management.
Bluegiga's Bluetooth low energy modules are based on Bluegiga'a low energy software protocol stack integrated with the world's leading Bluetooth low energy single mode chipsets. Bluegiga's Bluetooth low energy products will be commercially available in late 2010 with an engineering sample program beginning this summer.

Bluetooth wireless technology is the global short-range wireless standard for personal connectivity from a wide range of electronic devices. The technology is now available in its fourth version of the core specification and continues to develop, building on its inherent strengths: a small-form factor radio, low power, low costs, built-in security, strength, accessibility, and ad hoc networking abilities. The installed Bluetooth device base was over one billion products already at the end of 2006, making it the only well-known choice for developers, product manufacturers, and consumers worldwide.
