Interest for applications using Bluetooth Mobile Phones as a remote controller of Audio/Video devices increasing dramatically

Espoo, Finland
Bluegiga demonstrated an application that uses Mobile Phones for controlling a home theatre system at Bluetooth World congress in Amsterdam. The interest towards using a shelf standard mobile phone for controlling the audio/video device was significant. Benefits of the application for the device manufacturers and users are clear. Users can control multiple devices with only one remote controller and OEMs can develop a two-way remote controller user interface, which makes their devices versatile and simple to use.

During the last three quarters we have seen significant growth of projects where OEMs are developing their products ready to support mobile phones for controlling and monitoring audio devices, as well as e.g. industrial and medical instruments. The fact that many users have Bluetooth mobile phones - gives a new opportunity for OEMs to start offering new cost effective features for their customers, says General Manager Tom Nordman.

The technical environment of remote controller application
For user point of view the remote controlling and monitoring system is extremely simple. Only a standard Bluetooth phone is needed. When the user activates the application in the Mobile Phone it brings the controlling and monitoring interface to the display and it is ready for use. For OEMs the Bluegiga WRAP THOR module is easy to integrate into devices utilizing the serial port of the system. The WRAP THOR module acts autonomously and no other Bluetooth specific component at software or hardware level is needed.

The installation of remote controller applications to a Mobile Phone is supported from Bluegiga WRAP products using Installation Point technology patented by Bluegiga.

Bluegiga offers OEMs WRAP THOR modules, software platform and services for integration and application development for Mobile Phones, typically based on Nokia Series 60 platforms.
