 Solutions and Applications

Bluegiga's complete product portfolio and service offering enables you to connect multiple Bluetooth equipped devices to different networks, services and to each other - wirelessly over Bluetooth links.

Bluegiga's products are focused to following segments

Bluegigas complete solution typically incorporates the following devices: Bluetooth Modules or and Access Servers.  The role of an Access Server is to connect the Bluetooth-equipped devices to another networks such as WLAN, Ethernet, GSM/GPRS or act as a Bluetooth router between devices. The Access Server is a multifunctional device incorporating several Bluetooth radios for providing 21 simultaneous connections from single device (providing very low total cost per connection) and support for GPRS, WLAN and Ethernet interfaces. The other unique feature of the Access Server is that it can host applications autonomously. This feature is widely used for data logging, application hosting, proxying and protocol conversations. The Multi Access Server is Bluegiga's 3rd generation access device and it has been  thoroughly tested against  other Bluetooth products in the markets. Product is available now and it is in volume production.

The role of Bluetooth Modules from a systems point of view is to act as a network interfaces ('wireless network card') of the device. The major benefits of using Bluetooth as a wireless network interface in a device include; access to global markets, small power consumption, wide acceptance and interoperability with other vendors devices and security.

Global Markets; The major benefit of Bluetooth versus other short-range wireless standards is that it opens global markets to your products. Bluetooth is the same standard all over the world, operated in the 2.4GHz unlicensed band.

Small power consumption; By Using Bluetooth your battery-operated devices operate with reasonable power consumption, for longer. Nominally the power consumption is in the range of 5mA in a properly tuned Power Class 1 (100 meter range) application. This means that with one AAA battery your products run without charging for over 500 hours.

Wide acceptance: Today, Bluetooth is the worlds most supported short-range wireless standard. Already during the year 2003, the volume shipments of Bluetooth chipsets surpassed those of WLAN standards combined

Security: Bluetooth has good embedded security level by default. The initial design goal of Bluetooth originators was to make it as secure as wide area Telco networks such as GSM. The basic Bluetooth security is based on random frequency hopping and up to 128-bit encryption at link level, aided by included authentication and pairing functionality.
